Join In - Insight into the Teenage Brain, Risk vs. Reward - Aptos HS, Thursday, February 5th

Aptos High School, in partnership with Pacific Collegiate School, is pleased to announce the 2nd in Parent Lecture Series for the 2014-2015 school year. We welcome your school communities to join this valuable and relevant conversation on Thursday, February 5th at the Aptos HS Performing Arts Center, 100 Mariner Way, Aptos featuring Adriana Galvan Ph.D. Doors open at 6:15 pm, and the presentation is from 7:00 – 8:30 pm including the question and answer period.

Dr. Galvan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology and Brain Research Institute of University of CA, Los Angeles, where she is the Director and Principal Investigator of the Developmental Neuroscience Laboratory. Dr. Galvan’s expertise is in adolescent brain development. Insight into the Teenage Brain, Risk vs. Reward is a discussion about her research that aims to uncover the neurobiology underlying characteristic teenage behavior, such as risk taking, exploration and thrill seeking. Dr. Galvan's goal is to better understand the opportunities and vulnerabilities that accompany adolescent brain and behavioral development and will present findings for parents and students.

You may recall the series kicked off in the Fall with Parenting for Authentic Success with Dr. Madeline Levine on Friday, September 12th. Dr. Levine spoke to a full house and engaged the audience in a robust conversation about how to support the well being of our students in all aspects of their lives and their academic success. Thank you for participating in the series and our hope is that you find the next series lecture as beneficial for your school community to attend. Please share the above information and flyer within your parent and faculty outreach to spread the word. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at Seat Yourself. (https://tix4.seatyourself.biz/webstore/webstore.html?domain=aptos&event=.)

This informative event with Dr. Galvan on Thursday, February 5th is sure to draw another full house learning more about this complex and important time in our teen’s adolescent growth. Aptos High School, along with Pacific Collegiate School, is committed to bringing educational presentations for our school communities to support well balanced and healthy teen development. We look forward to having your school members share in this opportunity. If you have any questions about this event, please contact Donna Townsend at [email protected].
