Student Wellness Home

Welcome to the Student Wellness Page!

At St. Francis High School, we believe that emotional and mental well-being are essential to student success. Our goal is to empower every student to understand their emotions, develop healthy coping skills, build resilience, and access the support they need to succeed both in and out of the classroom. We know that high school life can be amazing, but also challenging. It's okay to feel overwhelmed, stressed, or just need a little extra support. You're not alone, and we're here to help you thrive.

Our commitment to student wellness is deeply rooted in the timeless wisdom of St. John Bosco, whose philosophy guides our approach to nurturing the whole student. St. John Bosco believed in guiding young people with reason, religion, and loving-kindness — not with fear or punishment, but with trust, encouragement, and heart. His example teaches us how to live with purpose, compassion, and joy, even in the small moments of everyday life. We strive to embody these values in every aspect of our student wellness initiatives, ensuring that every student feels supported, understood, and valued.

Loving-Kindness in Action

Living Don Bosco's values means being someone who chooses kindness — not just in big gestures, but in everyday interactions. For us, this translates into fostering an environment where:

  • We greet everyone with warmth, even when we're having a tough day.
  • We reach out to someone who seems left out or discouraged.
  • We practice patience with others (and ourselves), especially during stressful times.
  • We forgive mistakes and offer second chances.

Using Reason to Make Good Choices

St. John Bosco taught that we should treat others fairly, explain our actions, and guide with understanding. At St. Francis High School, this means encouraging students to:

  • Take a moment to think before reacting impulsively.
  • Be honest about how they feel, without putting others down.
  • Work through disagreements calmly and respectfully.
  • Understand that mistakes are a natural part of learning, not reasons to give up.

Bringing Faith into Daily Life

Don Bosco believed faith should be a joyful and energetic part of everyday life. We encourage our students to live this by:

  • Taking time each day for prayer, gratitude, or reflection.
  • Trusting in God during stressful times, such as before a test, a game, or a tough conversation.
  • Being a light to others through their positive attitude, actions, and example.
  • Celebrating Mass or faith events as ways to reconnect with their purpose and community.

Creating a Home Where Everyone Belongs

St. John Bosco's schools were known as places that felt like a home, school, church, and playground. You live his legacy by helping us create a community that feels safe, fun, and meaningful. This includes:

  • Welcoming others, especially new or younger students.
  • Taking school seriously while still enjoying the journey.
  • Building friendships rooted in respect and care.
  • Knowing that your presence, words, and energy truly matter to our community.

We are committed to providing a supportive and nurturing environment where students can not only excel academically but also flourish emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Our approach to student wellness is comprehensive, integrating these foundational values into all our programs and resources. We are here to ensure that every student at St. Francis High School feels empowered to navigate challenges, build strong relationships, and discover their full potential, guided by the enduring principles of St. John Bosco.
