COLLEGE INFO

Career and College Night at Cabrillo:  On Monday Nov. 2nd   over sixty college representatives will be at Cabrillo College’s Career Night from 6:00-8:00 p.m.  This is a great opportunity for seniors to speak with representatives from colleges they are planning on applying to and for juniors, sophomores and freshmen to begin their college search.

College Applications Reminder: Deadlines (Oct 1- Nov. 30 for CSU; Nov 1-Nov 30 for UC)

University of California applications and the California State Universities applications MUST BE SENT BY no later than NOVEMBER 30TH .  If students or parents have questions about UC/CSU applications contact Tish Green at 724-5993 ext. 205.  For private colleges and out of state public universities applications not using the common application, you will need to use their website to check application dates.

Counseling Event: Financial Aid 101 for parents and senior students. It will be held on November 16, 2015, at 6:30pm, in the Art Room E-1.  Learn how, when, and why you should begin the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  All four-year college bound students and parents should attend, especially if this is the first time you will be filing the FAFSA.   Check out this web for more information on the FAFSA  https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa

NEW to FAFSA Application:  FSA ID for Seniors and their Parents---Now is the time to apply for your FSA ID (formerly known as the Personal Identification Number PIN).  Go to  https://fafsa.ed.gov/  and/or https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa/filling-out/fsaid to learn all about it.

Admission Tests:  Seniors, remember to send your test scores promptly to the colleges you apply to via www.collegeboard.org Reporting your scores on your application is not sufficient to complete your application. Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and San Diego State requires you to take the SAT or ACT by the November test date.  All other CSU schools require that the tests be taken by the December test date.  The UC’s do not require the SAT Subject tests. However, certain majors at some highly selective colleges--UCLA, Berkeley, Davis, or San Diego--will use them to enhance student resumes. All information is available on a particular school’s website. CSU schools do not need or use subject tests.  Check the private colleges for their test requirements, but note that most will not want or accept subject tests.

Upcoming SAT I and SAT II, ACT Test Dates:

SAT test—Dec 5, 2015—last day for regular registration is Nov. 6th;  --late fee Nov. 23rd

ACT Test—Dec. 12, 2015—last day for regular registration is Nov. 6th --late fee Nov 20th
