May Announcements from the CYM

Devotion to Mary Help of Christians was spread far and wide through the work of St. John Bosco and continues to be propagated in the world by the Salesian family which recognizes and invokes Mary Help of Christians as its principal patroness.  From the very beginning, St. John Bosco, the great educator, placed his work as a priest and founder under the protection of Mary Help of Christians, to whom he turned for every need.  His confidence in Our Lady's help and protection was greatest when things were difficult or confusing, and he would often turn to her, saying, "So, shall we begin to do something?”  Don Bosco placed the institutes he founded under her maternal protection: the Congregation of St. Francis de Sales, called "the Salesians of Don Bosco,” and the "Daughters of Mary Help of Christians," established with the collaboration of St. Mary Domenica Mazzarello, and finally, the "Salesian Cooperators," for lay people and priests who want to live the charism of Don Bosco. Our Lady Help of Christians is therefore inseparable from the great Salesian Family. (From Thomas A Dunne, SDB; Provincial of Canada and USA Eastern)

May is the month we dedicate to honoring Mary.  We will host a very special event on May 13 called Marian Day. This is a long standing tradition in Salesian schools that we are excited to bring to St. Francis.  Parents can bring fruit and desserts for volunteer hours.  Contact Shannon McLeod for questions.

Marian Day - May 13

Marian Day is an entire day inspired by Don Bosco’s oratory spirit to honor Mary and Salesian students.  There will be no classes this day, but it is still considered a school day and an important day for us to come together as a Salesian family and share joy and to be "Together in Spirit".  The day will include a mass to honor Mary, the Megalodon challenge (seniors challenge staff to a sporting event), yearbooks will be handed out, and a festival day including games, swimming, jumpy house, food, etc.  At 4:00 pm, our JV baseball team will be hosting Aptos HS. Following the baseball game, we will have Concert On The Green where families are invited to bring a blanket and a picnic dinner and gather on the green grass for a concert from our students.  It will be a day blessed with family, friends, and fun.  Please join us!
