From the office of the Athletic Director

Dear St. Francis Families,

First, I would like to thank all those who supported our 2nd Annual Kickoff Luau at St. Francis. We had over 140 people come to raise money for athletics and arts at our school. We did the event outside this year;  as usual on the shores of Kelly Lake, the weather was perfect. We plan to do the event in mid/late August again next year. One we get an official date, we will put it on our website so you can mark your calendar.

We have two young men who have been awarded Division 1 scholarships and are verbally committed for baseball. Andrew Ciandro to Cal State Bakersfield and Ruben Ibarra to San Jose State. Congratulations to these great student/athletes as they will further their academic and athletic careers at the college level!

Fall sports have started off with a bang! Volleyball is fresh off a win vs. North Monterey County and will open their league schedule on September 6th at home vs. Soquel.

Cross Country has not been able to run a race yet due to the multiple wildfires going on in the area. The first home meet will be September 7th at Pinto Lake for the Watermelon H20 run.

Women’s tennis looks to have another strong year on the court. September 6th the girls will take on Carmel at Imperial Courts.

We have the return of Cheer to St. Francis as the girls will be cheering at all home and road football games this year. They looked great the first weekend of games.

Sharks Football, both Varsity and JV, are 1-0 after the JV won 45-0 over Pajaro Valley and the Varsity won 37-7 last Friday night at Cabrillo. The Sharks will play their next two games as home games, but they will be played at Watsonville High School on September 2nd and 9th. September 2nd is vs. Greenfield with JV at 5 pm and Varsity at 7:30 pm under the Friday night lights. September 9th will be the 1st Hazel Bowl as La Salle from Oregon, coached by Aaron Hazel, the older brother of Sharks coach Adam Hazel, comes down to play the Sharks. The game will be at Watsonville High School with the JV game at 5 pm and Varsity at 7:30 pm.
