CYM - December message

Happy Advent Season

This is always one of my favorite times of year.  I love the positive energy and feelings of joy and hope. However, I know how challenging it can be to balance the prayerful part of the season with the hustle and bustle.  A great app is Xt3 Advent Calendar 2016. This app offers you Bible readings, meditations, podcasts, and beautiful artwork done by 5-6 year olds.  I pray for all of us to find the peace and hope of the Advent Season. Merry Christmas!

LA Religious Education Congress and Disneyland

February 22-25, 2017    www.recongress.org/YD

LA Congress Youth Day is an event that happens once a year to celebrate the gift that young people are to our Catholic faith. The event happens at the Anaheim convention center in Anaheim, CA. It is a day of presenters, concerts, worship, and sharing our faith with 20,000 high school students.  The theme this year is “What Are You Waiting For.”

“What Are You Waiting For?” is first and foremost a call to action, a wakeup call. Jesus invited us to turn to him and to not delay. However, it is also our call to reflection. It gives us a chance to examine our lives and our faith journey and encourages us to bring our hopes, fears, doubts, and dreams to the Lord. Christ awaits you with open arms. So, what are YOU waiting for?

Mr. Monroy and Ms. McLeod will be taking SF students to LA Congress.

Additional Events

One of the best parts of this trip is the opportunity to meet and bond with our Salesian brothers in LA.  We will be sleeping at the Salesian St. Joseph Retreat Center, which is next to the campus of Bosco Tech. One of the nights we will gather at Don Bosco High for pizza and games and we will visit and take a tour of Salesian High LA.

The details of visiting with our “brothers” are still being work out and I will update as we finalize events.  We are trying to schedule a service project with our Salesian brothers at the Salesian Boys and Girls club or a visit to Homeboy Industries.

Cost

The cost of this trip is $275 per person. It includes everything except 2 lunches and 2 dinners. A non-refundable deposit of $100 is due by December 22. The deposit will save your spot. The final balance is due on February 15, 2017.

Service Hours

As part of SF graduation requirements, all students are required to complete a minimum of twenty hours of service per year.  You can check total service hours completed on Renweb.  Students who are significantly behind can be denied privilege of attending the Winter Formal Dance.  This time of year, there are many opportunities for service.  Contact Ms. McLeod if you need help finding opportunities.

“Love is not patronizing and charity isn’t about pity, it is about love.  Charity and love are the same—with charity you give love, so don’t just give money but reach out your hand instead.” -Mother Teresa

Kairos Senior Retreat

HEY SENIORS! Your once in a lifetime senior retreat is coming soon. Kairos is January 13-16. Information packets have been e-mailed to you or pick one up from Ms. McLeod. Permission slips and a non-refundable $100 deposits are due by December 22. The remaining balance of $200 is due by January 9.

Christmas Toy Drive

We are collecting new unwrapped toys for the KSBW annual toy drive and for eleven families we have adopted from the community.  All toys are due to Ms. McLeod’s room by December 9.  Thank you to all of our “elves” for your help!
