From the Coordinator of Youth Ministry

Dear St. Francis Families,

National Vocations Awareness Week (NVAW): November 3-9, 2019
NVAW is an annual celebration of the Catholic Church in the United States dedicated to promote vocations to the priesthood, diaconate and consecrated life through prayer and education, and to renew our prayers and support for those who are considering one of these particular vocations.

Fr. John Roche, SDB Coordinator for Salesian Vocations for Don Bosco West will be visiting us on November 5, 2019.  He will be visiting classrooms and available at break and lunch. His goal is to share the vocation opportunities with the Salesians as priests and brothers, but more importantly look for ways to keep our students and parents connected to the school and the Salesian mission after graduation as Young Cooperators.

Kairos
We have postponed the KAIROS senior class retreat which was scheduled November 19-22. Ms. McLeod is coordinating with athletics and VAPA to choose a new date.  Details will be emailed out soon.

St. Francis Food Drive
St. Francis is partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank to collect non-perishable food items for the holidays.  Each Faith Family homeroom will have a collection basket in their homeroom.  All donations are due by Thursday November 21.  Together let’s take a BITE out of hunger!

KSBW Share Your Holiday toy drive
Sharks will again be collecting new, unwrapped toys that will be donated to the KSBW toy drive.  All toys need to be brought to school by Friday December 6th in the morning. ASB will be doing a raffle for this Toy Drive. For each toy brought in you will get a raffle ticket for a major prize. For example, bring in 10 toys and get 10 raffle tickets to win! The drawing will be held during the Christmas Rally on December 6, 2019.

This holiday season St. Francis will be collaborating with Hope’s Closet of Santa Cruz.  Their mission is “to provide children and families in need with clothing and necessities.” A representative at Hopes Closet of Santa Cruz shared, “the teenagers in the foster care system are the most overlooked during the holiday season.”  We want to change that!! Each St. Francis Faith Family homeroom will be adopting 1 teenage boy and 1 teenage girl foster child.  We encourage gift cards as the easiest gift.  Together we will give a wonderful Christmas to 24 very worthy teens!

Go Sharks,
Ms. Shannon McLeod
Coordinator of Youth Ministry
