From the Athletic Director

Dear St. Francis Families,

Remember to save the date for our upcoming Golf Tournament on Friday, June 5th, 2020 at Spring Hills Golf Course in Watsonville. Thank you for all your support in the past and we hope to have another great event in June!

We’d also like to congratulate our winter sports on their great seasons. Our Wrestling team was represented again at the CCS tournament, as senior Isaac Davila won the individual championship for the heavyweight division of the PCAL Cypress. Armando Ramirez was included as an alternate at CCS. Congratulations to Coach Nick Guarrero on a great wrestling season. Coach Guerrero was also recently honored by KSBW as the recipient of the “Golden Whistle” award, recognizing him as a coach who inspires, motivates and transforms the lives of his wrestlers. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition!

Our girls Basketball team finished in 3rd place in the PCAL Cypress division and earned the #4 seed in the CCS Division V playoffs under Coach Randy Braga. Congratulations on a great season! Our players were strong and fierce competitors, and we are proud of their successes this year. Thank you for showing up and supporting them!

Congratulations to our boys basketball team who were co-champions with Gilroy in the PCAL Cypress and earned a #5 seed in the CCS playoffs under Coach Duncan Edwards. Unfortunately, we had a heartbreaking one point loss to St. Thomas More 69-68. We want to thank all who were at both the boys and girls games as we packed the Borina Athletic Center and cheered loudly for our Sharks all season. Thank you for your support!

Our girls soccer team finished their season with a win on senior day vs Greenfield and finished 5th place in the very tough PCAL Cypress division. We had a very young team with only 2 seniors so the future looks bright under Coach Chris Croghan.

Our boys soccer team finished in 2nd place in the PCAL Arroyo division with a 7-2-1 record. They finished with a win on Senior Day vs York under Coach Raul Navarro. With only 2 seniors graduating, the future looks bright for boys soccer.

Spring sports have officially begun with our first baseball game of the season falling to Pioneer. The first home game for varsity baseball will be Tuesday, March 10th vs Live Oak under Coach Kenny Nakagawa. Softball’s first home game will be Wednesday, March 4th vs Santa Cruz under Coach Adam Noto. The swim team will host a meet on Friday, March 6th under Coach Darlene Fiedley. The boys volleyball team has their first home match on Monday, March 2nd vs SLV under Coach Guy Putnins. The golf team has their first match on Tuesday, March 17th at Salinas Fairways under Coach Michael Doherty and the Track & Field team has their first PCAL meet on Tuesday, March 17th at Pacific Grove under Coach Ramona Young.

Go Sharks,
Mr. Adam Hazel
