From the Associate Principal

Dear St. Francis Families,

Even with the uniqueness of this spring and summer, I hope you and your family have had and will continue to have quality family time.  And with that, additional time for reflection, learning, and growing.

Topics included in this article are:

  • Summer Assignments
  • Back to School Supplies
  • Incoming Freshmen Information
  • Summer School Transcripts

Summer Assignments
All students are expected to complete summer assignments for their English class.  Additionally, other departments expect Advanced Placement students to also complete summer assignment(s). Some summer assignment notes of clarification:

  • Most students are not reading a book for their English class “summer reading” assignment
  • The assignments were shared with students during class in May and are posted on the SFHS website
    • See Forms & Documents in the Student Section
    •  The assignment will be more clear after reading the entire set of directions communicated in the PDF

Back to School Supplies
St. Francis High School does not have a standard school supplies list.  Each teacher may request specific supplies; for example, some teachers would like students to maintain a binder for that specific course.  If there are required or preferred supplies, teachers will list them on their syllabus which is distributed the first day of class.  For the first day of classes on Friday, August 14, students should bring at a minimum: a notebook, binder paper, 2-3 pens, 2-3 pencils, a highlighter, the books for each class as well as their iPad.

Incoming Freshmen
Spots are still available for Summer Bridge - an opportunity for students to preview high school level work and get help on skills they will need for freshman year.  Algebra, English, and/or  Strength and Conditioning are available. Classes run July 20-31. Registration is through the main office.

Summer School Transcripts
Due to the unique status of the world, many students have communicated their enrollment in summer classes.  All students taking summer classes, either for enrichment or remediation, should submit an official transcript from their summer school of attendance to their counselor.  Grades from approved summer school classes will be entered on the SF transcript in the fall.  Other courses may be eligible for inclusion on the SF transcript pending review of the course curriculum and the school’s accreditation.

Students taking summer school are encouraged to remain focused.  It is important not just to repair their previously earned grades, but also to learn the curriculum so it can be applied in subsequent classes.

Finally, students: do your best to learn something new each day and have a terrific rest of the summer!

Sincerely,
Ms. Colleen Eagleson
Associate Principal
