3 Sharks Make All-League Team in Golf

Harbor High sophomore Deane Rinaldi was chosen by local coaches as the MVP of the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League. Rinaldi, who earned medalist honors in more than half of his team's matches, was a steady force in the Pirates finishing 12-0 during the regular season.

He not only held the lowest scoring average -- 2.4 strokes over par -- on his team, but in the league. "He's a premium ball striker," said Pirates coach Scott Bedell, who was named SCCAL coach of the year. "He's straight, he's level-headed. ... He does everything right. I thought he was little too hard on himself, but he expects prefection. And that's a good trait."

Rinaldi also took third overall with 82 at the SCCAL Tournament at Pasatiempo Golf Club on April 30. He and senior Sam Jackson also led the Pirates with 77s at the Central Coast Section Regional tournament.

Jackson, who won the SCCAL Tournament in 2012, was named the senior MVP. Aptos' Jack Doerr (Aptos), the 2013 individual league champion, is the junior MVP. Harbor's Ryker Barnes is the sophomore MVP and teammate Brant Schenk earned top freshman honors.

Players on the first team include Aptos senior Corey Peterson, St Francis seniors Matt Devogelaere and Josh Boyles, San Lorenzo Valley junior Adam Lopez, Harbor sophomore Ryan Nixon, the Pirates' low scorer at the SCCAL Tournament.

Both Lopez and Boyles qualified for CCS Regional action as individuals.
