Three Sharks Football Players Chosen to All Register-Pajaronian Football Team

The St. Francis Sharks football team is well represented on the 2013 All Register-Pajaronian Football Team. The top players of the Pajaro Valley are chosen by the sports writing staff of Watsonville's Register-Pajaronian.

The highest award given to a St. Francis student/athlete was to Senior Wide Receiver Garrett Saucedo who was awarded the Most Outstanding Offensive Player of the Year. Saucedo had a record breaking year for the Sharks catching 67 passes for 919 yards and 15 receiving touchdowns. Saucedo also rushed 11 times for 153 yards and two touchdowns giving him a season total of 1,072 yards of offense on the season. Saucedo also had a kickoff return for a touchdown giving him 18 on the season. Saucedo's highlight performance of the year came again Livermore Valley Prep where he had 8 catches for 169 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Another Shark to be chosen to the team was Junior Quarterback Nick Ciandro. Ciandro finished the season completing 61% of his passes for a record breaking 1,810 yards through the air and 218 yards on the ground. Ciandro threw for 19 touchdowns and ran for another 5. Ciandro's highlight performance came in a win at Balboa where he was 16 for 28 through the air with 190 yards and 4 passing touchdowns. In that game Ciandro also ran for a score giving him 5 total touchdowns on the day.

The third Shark chosen to the team was Senior Right Tackle Matt Powers. Powers was the leader of the Offensive Line that gave Ciandro time to throw to Saucedo and paved the way for Running Back Jonathan Carmona to have over 1,000 total yards. Powers' highlight performance came during the first game of the season where the offense totaled 379 yards coming back from a 20 point halftime deficit to win 28-27 in the final seconds.

All three of these student/athletes play multiple sports. Come cheer on Matt Powers and Garrett Saucedo this winter on the basketball court. Then this spring cheer on Matt Powers on the golf links and cheer on Garrett Saucedo and Nick Ciandro on the baseball diamond.
