Sharks football wins first game of the year over Marina

St. Francis football got their first win of the year Friday night as they bear Marina High School 19-14 at Monterey Peninsula College. Lead performers for the Sharks were Ivo Lasich and Richie Martinez as they each ran for 103 yards. Martinez ran for 2 touchdowns and Lasich ran for a TD of his own. Martinez's 2nd touchdown was set up by a 31 yard pass from Quarterback Aaron Soto to Tight End Ruben Ibarra that took the ball down to the 1 yard line.
 
Defensively the Sharks were lead by linebackers Andrew Ciandro and Tommy Carroll as they were able to hold Marina to 14 points and out of the end zone on the final drive of the game to preserve the win. Jose Suarez made a game saving tackle on the Sharks final punt in the final minutes and Will Salady made some great plays at his Cornerback position to help the Sharks win. The defensive line had a great night led by Darian and Joseph Gutierrez-Lee as well as Ruben Ibarra and Zach Estrada.
 
The Frosh/Soph team got a big win 47-14 over Marina. 7 different Sharks scored touchdown and the Sharks ran for 406 yards as a team. The Sharks that crossed the goal line behind the great blocking of Malyk Johnson, Andy O'Rourke, Johnny Ceballos, Tanner Putnins, Ethan LoBue and Cory Parker were Derric Estrada-Haro, Andrew Seymour, James Young, Abel Martinez, Mario Velasquez, Devin McLeod and Jose Perez. The frosh/soph team is now 2-0 on the season.
 
The Sharks take on Gonzales next week in the first home game of the year Saturday September 19th. Frosh/soph will kick off at 11 am and varsity at 2 pm. Come out and support your Sharks!
