Thank you all who have been coming out to our football/cheer, volleyball, cross country and tennis games/matches/meets. We’ve had great crowds and great support for our fall sports.
Girls Tennis
The SFHS women’s tennis team did it again as they swept Scotts Valley 7-0! Their SCCAL record is 2-3 with an overall record of 3-5. The following young women won their match:
Number One Singles: Katherine Casper 6-2, 6-1
Number Two Singles: Gabriella Gutierrez 6-2, 6-1
Number Three Singles: Maya Talavera 6-1, 6-7, 10-5
Number Four Singles: Sofia Fryn 6-1, 6-4
Number One Doubles: Ciella Zivanovich/Emily Wells 6-4, 6-2
Number Two Doubles: Avery Croghan/Madeline Kehoe 4-6, 7-5, 10-5
Number Three Doubles: Kayli Galster/Mika Marheineke 7-6, 6-1
Senior day for women’s tennis will be on October 25th vs. Santa Catalina at Imperial Courts so please come out and support all of hardworking young ladies!
Volleyball
Our women’s volleyball team hosted and won the 2017 St. John Bosco Invitational. The young ladies beat Stevenson, KIPP from San Jose, Greenfield and Thomas More to win the tournament. Congratulations to our coaches and student-athletes! The women are looking to continue improving and winning as they battle weekly in SCCAL play.
The young ladies will have their senior night on October 19th vs. Santa Cruz in the Borina Athletic Center at St. Francis High School.
Cross Country
Cross Country is continuing their success. The Sharks put on a great performance at the Earlybird XC Invitational. Five athletes ran a personal record even though it is still early in their season. The Sharks will be back in action September 28th as we host the Soquel Knights.
Cross country Senior day will be October 12th at Pinto Lake. Please come out and join us in honoring our senior leaders!
Top female performers were Riley Croghan 21:46, Camryn Ryan 22:01, Natalie Henn 25:19 and Olivia Burke 26:40. Top male performers were Paul Kane 18:29, James Young 19:06, Brandon George 20:27, Mathieu Morin 20:42, Frank Song 20:48, Brandon Coulter 21:07, Julian Wolfe 21:58,Aiden Palmquist 23:10 and Miguel Aguila with 25:22. Go Sharks!
Football/Cheer
The football team has enjoyed a 4-1 start and just beat Marina 17-0 on Homecoming. The Sharks are 1-0 in MTAL Coastal Division play. Quarterback Derric Estrada-Haro connected with Andy O’ Rourke for an 80-yard touchdown pass, and junior Andrew Seymour threw a touchdown pass to Cory Parker on a trick play to seal the Sharks victory against a strong Mariners side. Cesar Sanchez returned from injury to add a field goal in the game, too. The offensive and defensive line have been the heart and soul of the team led by senior Ethan LoBue.
The Sharks senior day will be Saturday October 14th vs. Soquel at St. Francis High School at 2pm.
Last, but not least Winter Sports are just around the corner. The parent meetings will be on Monday October 23rd at 6 pm starting in the BAC. See all you parents there. The fall sports banquet will be Sunday November 5th at 5 pm in the BAC. Go Sharks!
