Dear St. Francis Families and Friends,
Happy Autumn Season! We are entering into our 8th week of school, and our students have picked up on their routines - balancing school work, sports, arts, service, and leadership while maintaining a healthy social life. This is evident in the laughter and chatter at break and lunch as well as the overwhelming participation of students, parents, and alumni during our Homecoming Spirit Week. Thank you for making St. Francis great!
I want to invite all of our parents and friends of the school to attend our sixth annual Burgundy & Gray Gala Burgundy & Gray Gala honoring Sr. Laura Goedken and Fr. Dave Purdy. Both have dedicated their lives to our students, past and present, and both deserve this and so much more. Sr. Laura and Fr. Dave are both living examples of what it means to a member of our St. Francis family. This event is the largest single community builder and fundraiser for our SF Parent Association, and all parents are a part of this great group. We have intentionally limited all of the other little fundraisers (i.e. candy sales, car washes, wrapping paper sales, magazine sales, etc.) to focus all of our attention on this event and our Annual Appeal (The St. Francis Fund). No matter what your status is or who you are, all students in our community get a tuition break due to the fundraising of Bingo, Burgundy & Gray Gala, and the Annual Appeal. This year the school theme is, “I AM ST. FRANCIS!” Each one of us is a critical member of the family and it takes all of us, through service and philanthropy, to make this community the successful school that it is. Please plan on attending the event and fully supporting your school through the following: 1) Burgundy & Gray Gala; 2) Bingo service; and, 3) support of the Annual Appeal (The St. Francis Fund).
I am grateful to the students, staff, and parents for welcoming our special guest, attorney Adam Juratovac. He spoke to the students in the morning and the parents at night on September 25th. His expertise focuses on social media and branding for young people in high school, college, and professional athletes. The topic is especially relevant in light of our students and parents use of social media as well as the fact that we are intentionally providing real-world learning experiences viewed through a Catholic, moral lense. The students and parents greatly appreciated his passion and knowledge for the subjects. Mr. Juratovac played college football at Boise State with a SJB alumnus that I taught and Mr. Castaneda went to school with, and it was great using social media to communicate with Kris (2004) while collaborating with Mr. Juratovac and Mr. Castaneda.
On October 9th Maestra Gray and our international students will help all of us celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. In China, the Mid-Autumn Festival is always celebrated as a family - come be part of our St. Francis family and learn more about this holiday! They will be selling Chinese food and Mooncake at lunch; they will also provide all St. Francis students with the opportunity to learn Chinese calligraphy and apply drawing skills on shrinky dinks. Parents interested in participating may contact Maestra Gray to assist or join in the fun - [email protected]
