St. Francis hosts Salesian Elementary & Jr. High for Feast of St. John Bosco
On Wednesday, January 31st, Salesian Elementary & Jr. High School came to St. Francis to join in our Feast of St. John Bosco celebration. After a wonderful Mass celebrated by Fr. Alberto Chavez, the combined student body received donuts and milk from our administration. The donut and milk tradition extends back to when Mr. Lee was a student in 1980 at St. John Bosco High School. Mr. Castaneda and Ms. Silva organized the purchase and distribution of the goodies. Then the Visual and Performing Arts students set about interacting and entertaining the Elementary & Jr. High students for the morning.

The Drama class led groups of eager Salesian students in lively improvisational games. The Choir and Bandboth performed select works for the student body, and Visual Arts students offered a variety of art activities as well. It was a beautiful Feast Day!

Band working to expand instrument offerings:
As the Band program continues to grow, Mr. Dewig would like to see wind instruments incorporated with our thriving drumline. The Junior High Band program is developing young musicians to eventually bring those instruments into the Band at the high school level. But if there are any high school students who’d like to join band and play a trumpet, trombone, or saxophone this next year, the opportunity is available. Please contact Mr. Dewig and express your interest!

Choir prepares for Performances and Acoustic Panels!
On Saturday, March 3rd the choir will be participating in the “Sing For Your Life” Benefit concert, hosted by the Gold Standard Chorus. They are selling tickets now, so make sure to buy your ticket! 100% of the proceeds come back to the Performing Arts Department. This year we are planning on using the funds to put acoustic paneling in the Performing Arts room to assist with improving acoustics in the classroom.

Also, on Wednesday, March 7th the choir will be participating in the CCS Choral Festival, where they will sing a handful of pieces and be adjudicated by renowned choral directors from across the state. They will also have the opportunity to attend a brief choral workshop after their performance. This festival is always a highlight of the season, and a tremendous opportunity for our students!

Musical Auditions are here
Auditions for The Music Man are officially underway! Once the audition process is finalized, rehearsals for the musical will start soon thereafter. Heavy rehearsal days will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school. Just a reminder that there will be three musical performances on April 26th, 27th & 28th. All three performances will be at 7:30 p.m. in our BAC.
