Sharks Football Falls in Heartbreaker to Watsonville 16-14

Your St. Francis Sharks took on Watsonville Friday night and the Wildcatz came away with the 16-14 win. Devin McLeod took the opening kickoff back for a 99 yard TD return to put the Sharks up 6-0. A Wildcatz Matthew Barcelo touchdown put Watsonville up 7-6, then an Oscar Magana TD run put the Wildcatz up 14-6. Just before halftime the Sharks made a goal line stand to keep the score at 14-6 going into halftime.

The 2nd half the Sharks defense was on fire keeping the Wildcatz out of the end zone and Andrew Seymour had an interception late in the 3rd quarter. The Sharks offense would go on a long drive as Aaron Soto converted a 4th and 1 on the drive behind the Offensive Line of Lawson Orradre, Hunter Blinkenberg, Logan Manson, Diego Ramirez and Johnny Ceballos. The drive ended as Joseph Ramirez scrambled his way into the end zone for a touchdown and then Seymour ran in the 2 point conversion to tie the game. The Wildcatz would go on a long drive and get into field goal range until an Andy O' Rourke sack  made Watsonville punt. The Wildcatz pinned the Sharks down to their 1 yard line. The Sharks were then forced to punt and Watsonville tackled the punter before he could get the punt off giving Watsonville a safety and a 16-14 lead. The Sharks just missed recovering the onside kick and Watsonville then kneeled on the ball for the win.

The Sharks are now 2-1 on the season and will host Harker on Friday night Sept 14th at Watsonville HS at 7:30 pm. Come out and support your Sharks!
